Surf’s Up

So honestly there isn’t much love out there for kids movies, and as a parent I can totally understand why.  Most of the ones that I have seen in the last few years have been weak at best.  Like Enchanted, cool idea, poor execution.  Happy Feet, good as a film, lost my kid’s intrest pretty quickly because it is nuanced, and that escapes children most of the time.  Don’t get me wrong though, there are a lot of kids movies that I have enjoyed watching.  But it is a rare treat more than a norm.

Well I was super stoked when I finished watch Surf’s Up, because honestly this was a really decent movie.  It didn’t get a lot of love when it was in the theater’s because the much better “film” Happy Feet was going at the same time.  And unlike Happy Feet, Surf’s Up is way more about having a good time and a being fun, than it is about getting a serious message across.

Filmed in the documentary style, this movie hits a lot of great note in that genre of film while doing a good job of poking fun at it.  It also plays up a lot of the stereotypes associated with surfers and has come of the best one liners that I have heard since the first Shrek.

So if you have to watch a kids movie, this one gets a thumbs up from me, and if you don’t it isn’t half bad and you may just end up enjoying yourself.

Good times.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

Watch this video.

Honestly, does anyone think this is a “real” moment. No one could be pandering more, or making herself to look more like an idiot. Sure, she is a human being with real emotions, but funny how that hasn’t come through until people say they are voting for Obama because he is a force for change, and is “real” person trying to unite a nation. In the words of the mighty Op Ivy, “Ain’t nothing wrong, with another unity song.”

Some more good news for Obama

Looks like Obama is pulling ahead in New Hampshire now.  I say that this is just more evedince of the US waking up and seeing what is going on.  Clinton went ballistic during the debates when Edwards said she was a force for the Status Quo, and the reson she went ballistic, he was right.

Clinton is just more of the same, and that is what the country is sick of at this point.  We aren’t loooking for more of the same, we aren’t looking for someone to come in and start a war with Iran, we aren’t looking for madated health insurance that we can’t afford (like our car insurance), we are looking for peace, and we are looking for afordable health care.

When Clinton talked about “all” the changes she has made in the past, she had two things to cite.  Is that a force of change, not really.  We want real change, not just BS little things that don’t do much for the working class.

Keep it up New Hampshire, lets get Obama another win.

American Gladiators (Hell yeah!)

In case you missed it, NBC has ressurrected one of the only reality shows worth watching, The show that was ahead of it’s time: American Gladiators.

Hell yeah!!!

I remember the ladies on the old show were wily and “kind of” cute, but not VERY hot. (I remember there were a couple of the blondes that looked like dudes) and they haven’t broken much with tradition this time. I swear the lady they dubbed as “Fury” looks like one of the Grammatica brothers (the dunce field goal kickers in the NFL)
However, as the show progressed and you got to meet each Gladiator, a couple caught my eye; Siren and Crush. I decided early that Crush is probably the most gorgeous athlete I’ve ever seen. she’s muscular, you can’t mistake that, but she is unmistakably a woman. Sure it could be the corset she wears, or the way her hair is cut (total anime-style!) or maybe it’s the thing I have for the dark haired women. Even her real name is hot: Gina Carano. Siren is cute, but her hair bugs me and she is possibly TOO muscular. Crush it is then!

I have a crush. . .

I saw a few signs in the audience that were swooning for Helga. . . I guess she’s got big tah-tah’s but to be honest, she looks sort of. . .fat.  On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind getting my ass kicked by Crush.
Monday nights are the normal time slot for American Gladiators and yes they are showing it again tonight. Check out the gallery for Crush on NBC.com
